Poor Dexter dog

Dexter was bitten by another dog on Monday night.

We had gone to the park, for me to do some training for my Race for Life, and while I was running Ade was walking Dex. Dex saw two other dogs and ran up to say hello. One of the dogs took offence and bit Dexter.

Dexter ran off and cowered under a tree the other side of the park. The guy who owned the dogs came up to tell Ade that Dex was bitten, but they couldn’t see Dexter. When they eventually found him, they discovered that he had a chunk taken out of his side.

So, we took him straight to the out of hours vet. The wound was raw flesh, there was no blood, but it looked bad and was maybe 3-4 inches round. Dex was surprisingly fine though and didn’t seem bothered by it.

The vet said it needed to be stitched straight away and prepared Dex for surgery. Luckily he hadn’t had his evening meal so could be anaesthetised. He was given a pre-med that made him woozy, his legs started collapsing underneath him and he looked drunk; then he was taken into surgery.

2 hours, 15 stitches and £500 (we have insurance luckily!) later, he was ready to come home. He spent the first night with a lampshade ‘cone’ on his head but it distressed him a lot, so Ade made him a foamy doughnut to stop him biting his stitches. He’s lucky, he’s a puppy with elastic skin, so he’s healing well and is still ‘Dexter’ – still playful and loving and licky and a bit bitey at times. He would still appreciate healing thoughts and virtual hugs though!

Cheers!

April 15, 2007

I was told by two different people today – one of whom was the spirit of a Native American Indian (don’t ask!) – that I should have a glass of wine tonight.

Who can argue with the spirit of a Native American Indian?! Cheers!

Large erection

April 14, 2007

We put our new tent up today. It was indeed a large erection, as it took up most of our back garden.

Dexter helped, mainly by running across the tent every time we tried to move it, and getting his paws caught in the guy ropes. He seemed to enjoy lying under the canvas so all we could see was a Dexter-shaped lump under the collapsed tent.

Putting up a tent is always guaranteed to bring marital harmony, and we were no exception… The material, being new, was very taut which made it hard to get the poles up in their correct position. Oh we enjoyed that. Getting the tent down was even greater fun, with complete lack of the appropriate words on my part (‘Hold the thingy in that hand and pull this over!’) and a proportional lack of understanding on Ade’s part. Next door were the unfortunate onlookers as the air turned blue and tempers frayed.

However, we managed to get the tent folded up, rolled up and back in it’s bag. Roll on next weekend when we do it all again – for real, this time!

Wafting

April 13, 2007

We’ve had a spate of unusually warm weather recently.

For some reason, some of my male colleagues – but one in particular – have taken to sitting with their legs wide apart.

I can’t help thinking of sweaty bollock juice being wafted around the office. Grim.

Who am I?

April 11, 2007

I’ve recently been thinking about all my ‘personalities’. I’m a completely different person in work to who I am at home, and often a different person again when out with friends and yet another with my family.

Working Me is professional, focused, tenacious, forceful, confident and calm. I’m seen as someone who sorts out problems, brings a team together and makes things happen.

Home Me is lazy, emotional, always tired, sometimes frantic, sometimes at the end of my tether but usually happy. I’m probably seen as the homemaker.

Social Me is usually drunk, funny, energetic, friendly, dancing, mingling, telling funny stories and trying to entertain. I’m probably seen as drunk and happy.

Family Me is shockingly similar to a teenager – a little moody, exasperated, impatient, needy but loving. I’m seen as The Executive and also as the golden child to some extent.

It’s something that everyone does I guess but it surprises me how I can be so different in different situations.

What about you?
